Feel free to add stuff here.
This apparently happens on windows with some new 57xx series ATI cards.
The fix is to add the line “video_driver = direct3d9” to the minetest.conf file which appears after the first run.
Check your debug.txt.
If you find this:
ERROR[ServerThread]: ERROR: An unhandled exception occurred: Cannot open database file
You probably have installed Minetest on a path that contains some special characters. This causes problems on some systems. The workaround is obvious: Just move it eg. to C:\games\minetest or whatever short and clean.
Also, please report back if you had this problem (remember to tell what is your operating system and what the path is (eg. C:\Documents and Settings\Foo Bar\Työpöytä\minetest-0.3.0-win32\).)
If you get this error when trying to start minetest in Windows:
minetest.exe - System Error The program can't start because MSVCR100.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.

The solution is to install the “Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package”
